Issa Rae Teams Up With HBO Again For New Comedy Sketch Show

Issa Rae teams up with HBO for “A Black Lady Sketch Show.”

A new TV show is coming on HBO. And trust me when I say this – it is going to be big!

“A Black Lady Sketch show” has just released its first trailer and it seems that it has caught the eye of the TV population globally. What is the fuss about? Well, this is the first sketch comedy show that is created, written and starring black women. Robin Thede is its head writer, and Issa Rae comes as an executive producer. The show is set to premiere on August 2nd on HBO. And there is already great anticipation about it following the release of the trailer.

During a panel at the Essence Festival 2019, Thede revealed what was her idea from the very start. The series itself is described as “set in a limitless magical reality full of dynamic, hilarious characters and celebrity guests.” The environment built in this comedy is the natural setting of existing where the writer allows the Black female comedians to be themselves, for the world to see that there are many different types of Black women and represent their talent.

The cast of the show is quite spectacular too. Black actresses like Ashley Nicole Black, Gabrielle Dennis, and Quinta Brunson will join alongside guest stars like Angela Basset, Lena Waithe, Laverne Cox, Marsai Martin, Kelly Rowland, Lil Rel Howery and many more.

Although the trailer was not long enough, there were some glimpses of sketches of what’s going to happen. Those presented a hike gone wrong, a “bad bitch support group” and a flight attendant about to lose control situations.
Without revealing too much, the comedy is expected to break viewing records.

As for the writer herself, Thede’s is super excited about the show. She expressed in one of her tweets back in June. After this TV show, it is more than sure that her career and recognition will experience an even bigger upside turn. Followed by that tweet come another one, in July, where she gave a little about what the show will be – celebrating Black ladies in comedy.

So, mark your calendars to August 2nd at 11 PM! – Tune into HBO and see for yourself why this is the next game-changing show.
