She Quit Her Job In Engineering to Fulfill Vegan Hair Care Company | Meet the Founder of SHEDAVI
Searching for natural black-owned beauty and hair care products is a task. Elizabeth Davis, founder of SHEDAVI, “an all-natural, holistic and ethically sustainable hair care brand”, is not here to play. Shedavi is an American-based, black-owned, vegan and cruelty-free hair care line. Davis founded the hair care line in September 2014. Davis wanted a product that promoted healthy hair and her “own creation.” Davis was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago and she now resides in Atlanta, Georgia. After high school, she attended Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee, Florida to study construction engineering.

She spent 10 years in the field of engineering, eventually quitting her full-time job to fulfill her commitment to SHEDAVI. She started her business while still working her full-time position. Her job was very demanding, “I get up at 4 a.m. to work on my business, go to work by 6 a.m. and is back at it again at 6 p.m. when I get off.” It took Davis over a year to create her product and finally launched in February 2016. There were times when Davis wanted to give up, but that wasn’t an option for the self-proclaimed entrepreneur.
Davis love natural ingredients. “I have created natural products to work wonders on all hair textures and types including natural and relaxed,” Davis said. After, years of begging her mother to give her a relaxer, her mom eventually gave in. It’s been 9 years since her last relaxer. Davis does not regret her transition from relaxed to natural hair. she prefers natural hair because it gives her hair a fuller and thicker look.
Having natural hair has not been easy for Davis, she had a few minor setbacks. Her hair was damaged due to improper Keratin Treatments and heat damage. However, her hair returned back to health because of her in-depth knowledge of healthy hair techniques with nutrient rich, wholesome products.
Davis recommends protective styles to keep your hair safe and to retain length and thickness. When Davis isn’t in the mood to rock her natural curls, she installs a sew-in for hair protection. It’s important for customers to be knowledgeable of the ingredients contained in their products. Davis’s products are silicone, sulfate, mineral oil, gluten, petrolatum,and parabens FREE.
WHERE DID SHEDAVI GET ITS’ NAME?
Did you know that SHEDAVI got its’ name from the founder’s parents? The syllables in her parents name gave Davis the cool idea to invent to the name. Her mother last name is Davis and her father name is Sherrod. Sherrod + Davis = SHEDAVI, how cool?! It’s pronounced (Sha-da-vee).
Davis was gifted the opportunity to debut the Shedavi CROWNEDTM Collection at the 21st Annual WORLD Natural Hair Show hosted by RHOA’s Porsha Willams. “Attendees received the first ever samples of the all new CROWNED collection and Shedavi’s all new cosmetic totes.”
